Caspian gull

 Caspian gull

Larus michahellis

Caspian gull is the most common big gull in our country.
Until recently, they were found both in the Mediterranean basin and in the regions of north of the Black Sea.
This taxon containing populations is accepted as two separate species (L. michahellis., Caspian gull) and (L. cachinnans., Yellow-legged gull).
L. michahellis which we will continue to call as the Caspian gull, breeds in all the Mediterranean basin including Turkish. Nesting habitats (michahellis: cliffs, buildings; cachinnans: dunes in the deltas) point to a significant ecological differentiation among the qualities that separate the two species. They were observed on the Black Sea coasts and Aegean region in our country.
They can be seen in Black Sea coasts and Aegean region and Mediterranean coasts.
It was observed that they entered the Konya Plain during the cold winter months.
