 Flamingo

Phoenicopterus roseus

Flamingos live in large communities, in still-water lakes, salt lakes or lagoons. They come to places where other animal species are scarce and where extraordinary natural conditions exist. Examples include salt lakes or lakes with alkaline content. In short, this bird species lives in shallow salty and soda water. Apart from these, they can also tolerate situations where the temperature differences are big. The number of individuals of bird groups in their environment can reach 1 million.
They generally eat arthropod animals such as crabs, shrimp, artemia, ant larvae and algae. Thanks to its downward curved beak, they can extract food from even very difficult environments. Flamingos are seen in Africa, Southwest and Central Asia, Southern Europe, South and Central America. In Southern Spain and Southern France, the rosa flamingo (Phoenicopterus roseus), the largest and most common bird species, is seen at incubation time. This species is 130 cm tall and lives in Africa, Asia and Southern Europe.
