It is a black and white bird with incredibly long legs found in or around shallow waters. It has a thin and straight beak, long wings and a glossy black head. His head and
most of its body shines white; there is a variable degree of blackness on the head. Its legs are reddish-pink and surprisingly long. Upper side of the young is browner and tips of its feathers on its wings are white. The "V" shape that forms on their backs during flight is quite
remarkable. Its singing is lush and rebuking. It is seen in warm and tropical climates. They generally feed in freshwater areas, lakesides, sea shore, swamps, river beds and swamp ponds. It is often seen that they feed on the shores of the Tuzla.
They live in steppes, desert areas, shallow still waters, sandy, muddy, open places, shallow lakes and rivers, mountain lakes, rice fields, dams, lagoons and swamps. South America, Australia and New Zealand are the places where they are seen most common. 
They are seen on the coast of Spain and France in Mediterranean, the Sulawesi swamps in Anatolia and Africa and the African Field swamps. They migrate for reproduction to all of Central Anatolia, the eastern half of Lake Van, Iğdır, the west of the Aegean, the south of the Marmara, the Eastern Mediterranean, the western borders of Thrace and the Kızılırmak Delta.
